A person becomes 10 times attractive not by their looks but by their acts of kindness, love, respect, honesty and loyalty they show…. to themselves.”

Recently, I developed a bit of sensitivity on my face.
Maybe rosacea or dermatitis or just old age…
So I was online looking for suitable creams or lotions in the anti-ageing section.

I came across this website for organic, natural products and noticed they used the phrase pro-ageing rather than anti-ageing.
It really struck me.
I felt a jolt to my heart.

In a good way….
Such a life-changing new perspective on ageing and myself ageing.

As this is a community of women over 55, I’m guessing this probably resonates with you too.

So I made a commitment to myself in that moment.
To reframe the attitude I had to my own process of ageing.
And also reframe the ways I could support myself on this journey of getting older.

To shift my mindset from anti-ageing to pro-ageing.

And to share my discoveries with women so as to guide them towards this new way of looking at the process of getting older; the pro-ageing way…

So with this in mind, body and heart:

“Youth is the gift of nature, but age is a work of art.” Stanislaw Jerzy

“As you get older you will understand more and more that it’s not about what you look like or what you own, it’s all about the person you’ve become.”

Take a few moments right now to reflect on your own attitudes to getting older.

And now… dig a little deeper and see what arises for you….

Until recently, I viewed getting older as becoming less Ok!

Being unattractive; less useful.

Not as interesting.. and that in so many ways, becoming invisible.

I’m wondering if you’ve come up with something similar?

In our society, women are conditioned to believe they lose value as they age.

That we become LESS THAN….

And we go along with this….. until something stops us in our tracks and we step back and question the long held belief that we have to anti-age, whatever it takes.

Now, thank fully this conditioning is ever so slowly changing as young women are taught that their value isn’t about their looks. It’s more about their innate value as a unique human being.

We have a very long way to go though….
We’re flooded with negative messages about getting older. And we get hooked by these unhelpful messages…

Notice how your ears prick up and how you feast your eyes on anything to do with anti-ageing products and services.

So what does the alternative approach of  pro-ageing mean?
Basically… to age with positivity..
To stop seeing ageing as a bad thing and instead…

Embracing the natural flow of getting older. The inevitable changes….

It’s choosing to be who you are, and express who you are.
To be visible rather than shrink away in the mire of self-doubt and the opinions of others.

To live with grace, resilience and courage.. from the space of wisdom, creativity, and balance.

To focus on overall wellness.

Doing a little bit of all the things you need to do to keep well- in your body, mind and heart. Exercise, eat well, relax/meditate, care for your skin, like and value yourself, distance yourself from negativity- yours and others…

“The trick is to age honestly and gracefully and make it look great, so that everyone looks forward to it.” Emma Thompson

So with this new pro-ageing view I’m adopting, I use the skin creams and serums because I value myself as I am in this moment- wrinkles and sagging skin and all those signs that I’m in my 60s.

Now, I want to take care of my skin so its nourished and protected as much as possible. Not because I want to anti-age it.

I’ve stopped dyeing my hair and now enjoy my grey locks.
And I’ve decided not to go down the never-ending path of anti-ageing services.

I exercise to strengthen my muscles, improve my fitness and mobility so I can keep doing the things that bring me happiness and a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

Not just to look good- this is still important- but not the number 1 focus.

Healthy foods choices- mostly, but let’s face it, we have to enjoy life as well…. seek out pleasure and enjoy it- savour it.

It’s all about balance.

This pro-ageing perspective is revolutionary…..

So, how can you adopt this pro-ageing mindset so you are coming from a place of valuing yourself as you are and not from the damaging anti-ageing mindset?

What’s the difference between anti-ageing and pro-ageing for you… and how can you apply this new perspective of pro-ageing to your own life?

This is an exploration at this stage.
I’m not suggesting that you have to make any radical changes.
It’s a process of adopting your own pro-ageing view of yourself and your life and such, this takes time.

Remember that from a very young age, you’ve been brainwashed to believe that as you age, your value diminishes.
So, it takes a bit of time, patience and effort to shift these beliefs.

And then adopt the radically different pro-ageing view.

The pro-ageing view that as we age our value doesn’t lessen.

In fact, it can grow and deepen and widen.

“I’m not old, I’ve just been young for a very long time.”

Karen Salmansohn

So let’s look at how you can work towards adopting this new attitude to getting older; the pro-ageing view?

As I mentioned before, its focusing on your overall wellness.
Doing a little bit of all the things you need to do to keep well- in your bodies, minds and hearts.

I’m delighted to be able to offer a way that you can do this for yourself.

That way is to combine exercise with the practices of mindfulness and self-compassion.

To work on your body, mind and heart all at the same time.

Now… that’s revolutionary…

The ultimate pro-ageing toolkit.

This combination of exercise, mindfulness and self-compassion lightens self-doubt and positively charges your mindset so you want to look after yourself now and for the longterm.
